[Xastir] Imagemagick detection in latest cvs

I am trying to build the xastir114-2003-Feb-19 from sourceforge.
I have Imagemagick-5.5.5-1 and Imagemagick-devel-5.5.5.1 installed from 
rpms
on a redhat 8.0 system. configure does noot seem to see the Imagemagick 
libraries.
I seem to recall a past message about having to make a link to let 
configure find
Imagemagick. Does this still apply and if so, what is the link?
