[Xastir] Also problems with Tigermaps

I'm not sure what happened, but now I am getting the tigermap with no 
problems again (?).

However, in trying to troubleshoot the other day, I tried running xastir 
as a different user on my system.  When I go to the map chooser, I only 
see the directories, not any map files (they definitely exist in 
/usr/local/share/xastir/maps).  Any ideas on what could cause this?
