Hi, I'm KM5VY, one of the maintainers of Xastir, and largely the curator of Xastir's git repository on GitHub.

I've been participating in Xastir development at a low level since 2004, though I've been a great deal more active in 2025 than ever.

I was a search and rescue volunteer for 21 years (1996-2017), the last 14 of those as a search and rescue incident commander. I used to use Xastir for tracking field resources, reporting data obtained on ELT satellite hits and DF reports from field teams, plotting computed transmitter locations from DF reports, and a bunch of other stuff.

Sadly, nowadays, I use Xastir mostly to watch how little interesting APRS traffic there is in my area, view weather alerts, and spend time fixing bugs in my retirement. I retired from my day job in 2023, and apparently I miss spending late nights in front of my computer fixing bugs and tweaking code.
